This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, places and incidents are either the product of the author's imagination or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to any actual persons living or dead, businesses and events or locales are entirely coincidental. This book also has some strong scenes that may cause offence. This isn’t your typical romance.

  Chapter One

  Maci

Music drifts through the apartment as I sit on the sofa and stare into space. I’m all alone and bored which is pretty much how it’s been since Drew moved out and got her own place with Cyrus, her dangerous Redgrave boyfriend. Not that he would ever harm a hair on Drew’s head. No, Cyrus fucking worships her. It’s anyone who dares to hurt her or anyone else in the MC that has to worry about the Redgrave brothers.

I do get lonely living here alone now though, however it’s better this way as it started to get a little awkward and uncomfortable seeing a bit more of Cyrus than I should have. I’ve lost count of how many times I would come home and walk into some sort of homemade pornography scene. Those two love their sex, that’s for sure and I don’t hold it against them, I’m just glad I don’t have to think ahead before going home now. Not that I spend a lot of time here. Lately I’ve been staying at the clubhouse, there’s a spare room for me and the girls whenever we drink too much and don’t want to go home but I’ve been using it a lot these past couple of months. It’s nice to hear the loud chattering of the members and the bass of the music, it soothes me into a deep sleep unlike last night. I slept here, in the apartment. It was deadly silent and I had a shit night’s sleep because of it.

Fed up of sitting alone, I put my empty mug into the sink and decide to head downstairs to the salon. There has to be someone there to talk to. Either Tasha or Lauren will be working surely but if not, Lydia will be working at reception. I’m not due at work until late afternoon but I need someone to talk to otherwise I’m going to go crazy. I feel so bored and I’ve come to realise that I need a hobby or something to do to fill my time. Most of my friends are coupled up and are starting to have families of their own. I have no biological family I can pop round to and check up on, my friends and the MC are my adoptive family. Maybe even get another job? I only ever work afternoons and nights for the clubhouse bar, so I could perhaps find something throughout the hours I’m alone. I need something to do because I can’t be sitting here on my own or sat at the clubhouse and I can’t expect the girls to always be sitting with me. They have their own lives to live. It’s not all bad I suppose, I have been watching the TV series I’ve been meaning to watch but there’s only so many episodes per season, which sucks.

As I exit my apartment and walk down the stairs, the noise of the salon starts to filter through. I open the door at the end of the corridor and the chatter along with hair dryers becomes louder as I step into the salon. The apartment I live in is on top of the salon Tasha and Lauren own so it’s easy for me to pop in and have a chat. Of course having my hair and nails done for free is a huge bonus. I always offer to pay but Tasha threatens me every time I do. I walk inside and the girls who work here all offer me smiles seeing as they know me well. I walk over to Lydia, she’s the daughter of a club member and works the salon reception. She’s a really nice girl and over the past couple of months she’s started to become closer to me and the girls.

“Hey.” She smiles over at me as she ends her phone call, typing away at the laptop and filling in the new appointment. “Bored again?”

“How did you know?” I sigh, leaning onto her desk.

“You only ever come down here when you are.” Lydia laughs.

  “No I don’t.”

“Kidding.” She smiles, although I’m beginning to think she has a point. Recently, I only pop in when I am bored and not to just hangout. Now I feel like shit as well as bored. Customers enter the salon and Lydia sends me a warm smile. “Lauren’s in the staff room.”

As Lydia becomes busy, I decide to go and check in with Lauren. I’ll catch up with Lydia later. I’ve been here enough times to know where the staff room is, and when I push open the door I spy Lauren, sitting on the sofa scrolling through her phone, but she offers me a bright smile when she sees me.

“Hey!” She waves me over to sit beside her. “I was just thinking about popping up to yours to check on you.”

“Beat you to it.” I laugh. “I’d rather come down here anyway, I’m sick of sitting on my sofa.”

“I know how that can feel.” Lauren nods. “Having a baby does that to you, but what’s your excuse?”

“Boredom.” I sigh. “I’m thinking of getting another job.”

  “You’re always welcome here.”

“I’m not trained.” I point out laughing.

“No, but you can wash and dry peoples hair.” Lauren shrugs. “Even if it’s an hour or two, it gets you out I suppose.”

I chew on my lip as I think it through. It could help me out but then again, I’m still close to home. Literally underneath it. “I’ll think about it.”

Lauren flashes me a sympathetic smile. “How are you finding it now that Drew has moved out?”

“Boring.” I laugh. “I’m used to Drew being there when I get back from work and now it’s weird and empty.”

“Is that why I’ve heard you’re at the clubhouse most of the time?”

I look away from her concerned frown. “And I get too tired. It makes it easier.”

“My house is quite close by, you’re always welcome at mine.” Lauren offers.

“Thank you, but I wouldn’t want to wake Connor.”

“Don’t be silly, he sleeps like a rock, just like his father.” She laughs. “But seriously, I don’t want you to be alone and suffer.”

“I’m not suffering.” I assure her. Lauren is the mother hen of the group. Probably because she’s the VP’s Old Lady and one day she will be in charge of the women but I think it’s more than that. She’s a caring person, no matter how much she tells me about her past. Apparently she was a huge bitch but I’ve never seen that side of her. “Stop worrying.”

Lauren smiles. “Right, well I should get back to work but promise me you’ll call if you need me.”

“I promise.” We stand to give each other a cuddle and I follow her out as she greets her customers. I wave goodbye, to Lauren, Lydia and the rest of the girls before returning to my apartment. I want to grab my car keys and fetch something to eat before I go to the clubhouse. I don’t want to turn up to work hours earlier than I should, that would be pathetic.

  ***

It would seem I am pathetic.

I drove to McDonalds for something to eat and when I collected my food, I realised I didn’t want to sit at a table and eat alone but I also wasn’t going to eat alone in my car. So here I am, driving to the clubhouse three hours before my shift even begins with my food securely in the bag on the passenger seat.

I turn up the radio and sing along, trying to just enjoy the moment. There’s no point in regretting it now. I approach the gates, slowing down and reaching inside the McDonalds bag for some stray chips and shove them in my mouth. The guys on guard duty standing at the gates automatically open them for me and I wave at them as I pass by. Parking into the spare space, I notice Baby sitting down at one of the benches in front of the clubhouse. Why the fuck does he always get this dreaded, excited and nauseating feeling from me whenever I see him?

Sighing, I grab my food and get out from my car. I know as soon as I close the door behind me that Baby notices me because I can no longer hear his voice. He was excitedly talking with Scrappy and Ryder when I first pulled up, but now it’s gone awfully quiet.

I put down my head and quickly march towards the door, hoping I can get by them and eat my food inside. I don’t get that lucky though because I hear Baby jump down from the bench. “You’re early aren’t you Mace?”

“You know her work shifts?” Laughs Scrappy and Ryder joins in.

I turn to face them, Baby is standing a few steps away while Scrappy and Ryder are still sat on the bench. “I figured I’d grab some dinner and then start early.”

“My mums just served up some food, so I wouldn’t go in there with that if I were you.” He smirks, pointing to my McDonalds paper bag.

“Yeah. Maybe you’re right.” I snicker, going to sit beside Scrappy and I start to dig into my food. Scrappy tries his luck, reaching into the bag but I slap his hand away. “Cheeky fucker.”

Baby sits opposite, watching me eating but I don’t care. I’m not one of those girls who doesn’t like to eat in front of guys. If I want to eat, then I will eat. It obviously doesn’t put them off because men hit on me all the time, not that I ever accept their offers. I have more self-respect than that.

“So, how are you guys?” I ask them.

“Same old.” Scrappy shrugs. “How’s you?”

  “Great.” I grin.

“How is it living alone?” Ryder asks.

“Why does everyone keep asking me that?”

“People get worried.” Scrappy points out. “You’ve been staying here at the clubhouse a lot.”

I bite down on my cheeseburger, staring at Baby as he watches me eat. “You have something to say?”

“Other than I don’t like you living all by yourself in that apartment?” Baby asks. “No.”

“I’m perfectly safe.” I remind him. “It’s just boring.”

“I can always come over and give you some company.” Ryder winks, which earns him a glare from Baby. “As a friend.” Ryder adds, making Scrappy laugh.

“You can come over anytime Ryder.” I send him a wink back and his eyes widen. “Tell me, is Ryder your real name or did you earn it in some other way?”

Ryder clears his throat. “My real name.”

I poke out my bottom lip. “Pity.”

Scrappy shakes next to me as he laughs. Ryder looks amazed and Baby has a fixed scowl in place.

“If I were you, I’d be having parties every night.” Scrappy wriggles his eyebrows.

I smile. “How do you know that I don’t?” I look across at Baby and Ryder, then turn my focus back onto Scrappy. “Naked parties are the best, right?”

All three men are speechless, and it makes me giggle as I finish my food. I feel their eyes fixed on me as they talk about some shit for their bikes. They wouldn’t talk about anything too important around me, so they’re making small talk. Pitying them, I decide to hurry up and finish my food, taking the last bite of my burger and leaving them to it. Throwing the McDonalds bag in the bin before I enter, I push open the large and heavy doors and I’m greeted by the sights and smells I mostly love about this place. The large, hairy, tattooed and scary looking men, having a fucking good time drinking their beers and listening to some good music, bantering with one another and surrounded by women. The Old Ladies fussing around their men while the whores try to catch the attention of others. The odd family members hanging out and enjoying themselves with everyone else, of course not all the men’s families enjoy being here, but like me, a lot actually do. Sons and daughters who have grown up in the club and rightly taking their place within their extended family. I fucking love it here and it’s a good job too because I don’t have anywhere else to go. This is it for me.

I send the odd member a wave as they greet me as I walk towards the kitchen, the music is more of a background noise right now but later on as I’m working behind the bar it will be the focus and will have me swaying my hips to the beat. Before I start work though, I go and find Laura, the Old Lady to the Prez. She’s often found in the kitchen area, making sure all the men are fed and in a good mood.

“Hey Laura.” I bounce over to her and she giggles as her arms open and welcome me in a hug. A lot of people are scared of her, but not me. We have a good relationship and she’s almost like my adoptive mother, seeing as I don’t have one of my own.

“Hey babe!” Laura squeezes me and I notice June towards the back of the kitchen, she’s pulling some pizzas out of the many ovens but waves when she notices me. “You just can’t keep away from this place can you?”

“I just love it.” I roll my eyes and Laura laughs. “You need any help before I’m due at the bar?”

Laura frowns, turning back to wash up some dishes. “No we don’t, now sit down and give June and me some gossip.”

“I don’t have anything to tell you that you don’t already know.” I point at her with a knowing smirk, Laura knows everything that goes off around here.

“Maybe,” She looks me over. “But not between you and my son.”

I grimace and Laura catches it. She knows as well as everyone else in the MC what goes on between me and Baby and the most embarrassing thing is that they all know no matter how much chemistry we share, Baby still doesn’t want me.

“Stupid boy.” Laura shakes her head.

The kitchen door then bursts open and an annoyed looking biker by the name of Chizzle rests his eyes on me. “There you are!” The relief on his face clear to see. “You ok to start now? The new prospect dropped a load of glasses and has given himself a new scar.”

“Sure.” I give one last smile to June and Laura, following Chizzle back out to the bar. I see the prospect running to where I’m assuming the club doctor is, let’s just hope he’s not started drinking for the night already.

As soon as I stand behind the bar I’m put to work as the men shout their orders to me. The music has gotten louder since I’ve been talking with Laura and I prefer it this way. The songs capture me and I end up dancing as I work and it helps to make the night go faster. Sometimes I’ve even worked overtime because I’m having fun whilst I’m working. Why not! I’m enjoying myself and getting paid for doing so, seems stupid for me not to.

After an hour, Chizzle leaves me and I’m joined by another prospect.

“Your friend not coming back?” I ask him as he fixes a drink for Ryder.

The prospect actually scowls at me. “He’s not my friend.”

I then stand tall and match his dirty look. “Erm, excuse me! Don’t fucking talk to me like that!”

“It doesn’t matter how I talk to you.” He snaps right back, placing the drink on the bar in front of Ryder, who is now listening to mine and the prospects conversation. “You’re a club bunny, I don’t even need to talk to you.”

“What the fuck!” I yell and all of a sudden Baby is behind the bar, looking pissed and Ryder stands behind him, looking just as angry as Baby is.

“Who the fuck are you talking to prospect!” Baby shouts, grabbing the collar of the prospects shirt and slamming him back up against the wall, smashing some glasses as he does.

“The bunny.” The prospect spits, a look of horror capturing his handsome face. He looks to me in panic and then back to Baby.

“Maci isn’t a fucking bunny!” I’m about to step in and tell him that technically I am, but the look of pure anger on Baby’s face puts me off and I decide to stay where I am. “She’s a sister to the club and you treat her with fucking respect. She’s above you, you piece of shit and if I hear you mistreating her again you won’t see the sunlight again. You fucking hearing me!”

Baby now has gained the attention from some of the MC members and they look over with curiosity. Some look as pissed as Baby and Ryder. The prospect hasn’t made his trial here easy now and will surely receive some punishment. In the MC’s eyes, I belong to them and the men here are very protective of those closest to them and I’m honoured to be one of those they treasure. What has also surprised me is how Baby told the prospect that I’m not a bunny and that I’m a sister to the club. I’ve never heard of myself being considered as much and I don’t know what to say.

Baby releases the prospect and he stumbles back, looking at all the pissed off faces aimed his way. Despite this though, the prospect gathers himself and looks to me, this time minus the scowl as he steps closer. Baby goes to step between us but Ryder stops him.

“Sorry.” Prospect apologises with a slight smile. “It won’t happen again.”

“No it won’t.” Baby barks. I look to Baby and warn him. Thankfully he backs down and I look back to the Prospect.

“Look,” He begins. “I didn’t realise who you were and I’m sorry.”

“You’re forgiven.” I smile back and the Prospect smiles back, a little too much for Baby’s liking because he scowls again.

  “Just like that.” Baby growls.

“Yes.” I snap back at him. “Now move, so me and the Prospect can work.”

Baby looks between me and the Prospect before he spins and storms away. I laugh as I turn to serve Scrappy and the Prospect looks at me oddly. “So, you and Baby?”

I look at him from the corner of my eye. “No, we’re not together.”

“But there’s something there.” He snickers. “So, I’ll keep my distance.”

“Oh,” I laugh as the Prospect begins to take a drink order from another member. “You think you’ll have a shot?”

The prospect now laughs. “I’m sure of it.” We look at each other and then both laugh. “You’re hot Maci, fucking believe me but I’m gonna keep my distance.” His eyes drift away and I follow his line of sight, to see that the Prospect is staring at Baby. “I wanna keep my place at this club.”
